Headstones, Grave Markers, Memorial Stones

Headstones, grave markers, memorial stones and memorial plaques all help us keep memories alive after a person passes on. They can be made from various materials and can be both upright or flat in the ground. Most cemeteries use the in-ground stones for ease of maintenance, but some cemeteries allow upright stones. Most headstones are made from marble or granite, I work with both of them. It is very important that you check with your cemetery about their rules and regulations.

What's the big difference between how you create the headstones compared to the commercial companies ?

All of my inscriptions are done by hand, both the layout and the actual cutting of the inscription. I use a calligraphy brush for the initial layout, then transfer it to the stone using carbon paper and finally cut it out using a 5 mm flat chisel. I then paint the letters for readability. I learned all this during my four year apprenticeship in Switzerland. Each inscription is unique,

Headstones are very personal and I am honoured to be part of this difficult time in people's lives. I help them design a stone which reflects the person who has passed on. I make many preliminary sketches in order for the clients to be able to visualize the final design. My motto is " I can always make more sketches, once my work is done, it is literally carved in stone and can't be changed."

I would be happy to answer any questions you have.
